The Savannah Bananas Are Bringing Bananas to College Baseball

The Savannah Bananas have created quite a stir in baseball with their eccentric stunts and unique approach to promotions, game play, fan engagement and social media outreach. Since entering their independent professional league circuit last season, their efforts have made waves among fan engagement, promotions and fan participation efforts as well as TikTok followers of over 6m–more than all MLB franchises combined!

Jesse Cole founded The Bananas in 2016 after realizing that competitive baseball alone wasn’t enough to attract and keep fans. His first step toward realizing his vision was turning Grayson Stadium into Bananaland where every game follows equal rules and energy.

These include a two-hour time limit, no stepping out of the batter’s box (or being called for doing so), bunting or walks allowed; whichever team scores more points during an inning wins that inning and any foul balls caught by fans count against that team; this has created an action-packed, fan-engaging and highly entertaining baseball game, popular both at Grayson Stadium and across its nationwide tour. Fans have packed these stadiums in droves!

As soon as they arrived for their sold-out series of games earlier this year, fans flocked to the gate from 2 p.m. when The Bananas and Party Animals made an appearance. There they treated fans to pregame entertainment like dance contests on the dugout, breaking world record attempts for World’s Slowest Race and an infant acting out Simba from The Lion King!

It’s evident that the players are truly enjoying themselves here, as their enthusiasm quickly spreads throughout the crowd and everyone seems to be having an incredible time! Even some hardened fans were smiling and laughing throughout, with some even joining in singing along to Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball.”

The Bananas’ popularity has garnered attention from multiple major league teams and several players have been drafted by professional clubs, but for now their players remain limited to home games in Savannah and world tours – this week heading up north for three sold-out games at Wisconsin Grayson Stadium in Grayson Stadium and broadcast live by NESN on television – providing us with an excellent test case as to whether their groundbreaking formula can translate to traditional sports settings – we think so!
