Resurfacing of Speer Boulevard near downtown to be complete by early next week

DENVER — A delay resurfacing Speer Boulevard means drivers will have to battle more visitors to next week.

The milling and paving of this boulevard started on July 22. Recent rain is to blame for the job lasting more than expected, according to Denver Public Works.

Speer Boulevard is one of the very well-travel roadways in Denver.

The present roadwork close to the Auraria campus was creating longer commutes for drivers.

“Instead of that being a half an hour, it takes me an hour and a half to get home,” stated motorist Adrienne Cobbs.

The job isn’t just taking a toll on commutes but in addition on cars. Cobbs says uneven pavement and also a manhole on Speer Bridge has negatively affected her vehicle ’s alignment.

“You can’t prevent [the difficult edge] because … it’s round all of the lanes and you hit it& ” Cobbs stated. “It sounds like your vehicle is falling apart once you hit it. ”

The extend of Speer– skirting LoDo, the Pepsi Center and the Auraria campus — is only one of several summer street projects approved by Denver voters in 2017.

“This is a fairly big resurfacing undertaking,” stated Heather Burke with Denver Public Works.

Burke says crews are employed to lessen impacts on drivers. Crews are paving lanes during the afternoon commutes and inbound lanes during the evening commutes.

&ldquoWe know that is frustrating,” Burke explained. “A lot of individuals travel on Speer, but really you’will be satisfied with it when it’s completed. ”

Passengers are invited to pay additional attention along Speer and travel slower than usual. Denver claims the new asphalt should last 12 to 15 years.

The construction delay is anticipated to expand the present job by a couple of days. The city states work should be complete by early next week.
