Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Colorado is known for many things – both natural and artificial. Music fans from around the globe know that for an unforgettable concert venue experience, Red Rocks must be visited. A National Historic Landmark, this outdoor amphitheater provides musicians and music fans alike an idyllic environment with incredible acoustics that truly makes Red Rocks something special.

No matter if it is for rock and roll show or just admiring its magnificent sights, your trip to the famed sandstone formations will remain memorable. Few places offer such close access to such an awe-inspiring natural landmark.

Before Europeans came to America, this area around the amphitheatre was considered sacred by the Ute tribe; however, after Civilian Conservation Corps began working on it in 1936 it truly gained fame as a great venue to watch live musical performances. Local musician John Brisben Walker hosted concerts on temporary stages at this venue; quickly spreading word that this was indeed a place to experience some amazing sounds!

With the assistance of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), a formal outdoor theater was constructed between Ship and Creation rocks as one of the crowning achievements of New Deal programs. Construction completed in 1941 and ever since has seen many iconic concerts by both acclaimed performers as well as newcomers who will go on to become major acts.

Apart from its impressive acoustics, there’s much more to enjoy at the park besides just its excellent acoustics. From its namesake amphitheater to Dinosaur Ridge nearby – geological beauty can be seen everywhere you turn! Plus if you visit when no concerts are scheduled you can explore it freely – an added perk!

There are also hiking trails, bike paths and a free visitor center nearby. Local families enjoy taking their children to concerts here – you will often see stroller-laden families with babies dancing happily during a show suitable for age-appropriate programming. If you have some extra time on your hands, the Trading Post and Colorado Music Hall of Fame may both be worth visiting as well.

Though a night of music at the legendary amphitheatre will provide an unforgettable experience, it is important to keep in mind that this public park requires everyone’s respect and appropriate behavior. This area is popular with runners; runners often complete their morning workout on its steps. Securing an excellent seat during a show is difficult; therefore be ready for some delays after its conclusion when exiting. Consequently, plan accordingly and be patient!
