Happy (early) birthday, Big Honey! Nuggets center Nikola Jokic turns 25. To observe, here’take a peek at some facts concerning the two-time all-star:
41st select
Jokic was chosen in the second round of this 2014 NBA draft together with the 41st overall pick by the Nuggets. Just three players chosen facing him (Joel Embiid, Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine) have greatest career scoring averages compared to his 16.9 points. Two (Embiid and Clint Capela) have better rebounding averages compared to his 9.7. And only one (Elfrid Payton) includes a much better help average than his 5.4 per match.
Jokic was nearly pulled in the 2014 draft pool
From Denver Post reporter Mike Singer: “Ten days before the draft,” Jokic’s agent announced he was yanking his client’s name out of this pool. The Nuggets asked him to rethink, and ensured they would select his customer together with the No. 41 pick, based on two league sources. ”
“A guy that is Bad ’s” Boris Diaw
NBA scouts weren’t the only ones touching Jokic. This ’s a sampling report from Bleacher Report entering the draft: “Unathletic players may live in the NBA and also make prominent roles. If Jokic can provide true shooting and make the right plays when the ball is in his hands, he could be a poor-man’s Diaw and a long-range hazard such as (Pero) Antic. ”
“Big Honey”
Teammate Will Barton bestowed the nickname to Jokic. According to Barton, “He’so obtained a sweet match, guy, and he’s seven ft. It only fits. ”
Select business
Jokic joined exclusive company last year, becoming only the fourth player to average 20 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in a year. The others: Russell Westbrook (three times), Oscar Robertson (three) and Wilt Chamberlain (double ).
Triple-double machine
Jokic is 10th all-time in NBA history in triple-doubles with 39, four supporting former Nuggets celebrity Fat Lever (43) for ninth. Robertson is the one time pioneer at 181.
Olympic medalist
He was a part of the Serbia national team that earned a silver medal at the 2016 Olympic Games. Jokic averaged 9.1 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists in eight games.
Best of the best
In 2019, Jokic became the Nuggets participant to be chosen to the All-NBA first team since David Thompson at the 1977-78 season. Alex English, Fat Lever and Carmelo Anthony obtained team nods throughout their period in Denver, although Chauncey Billups was a third team choice.
