Nikita Zadorov had surgery to repair broken jaw, out “week-to-week” for the Avalanche

The Avalanche will be without another player on a basis, trainer Jared Bednar stated Saturday morning, since defenseman Nikita Zadorov sustained a broken jaw Thursday and necessary surgery Friday.

“Everything went nicely, therefore we’ll just watch how things go another few days and then we’ll attempt to put him back to the ice,” Bednar stated of Zadorov, that can practice with the staff at a non-contact sweater while his chin heals.

Zadorov unites forwards Mikko Rantanen (left leg), Gabe Landeskog (lower-body), Colin Wilson (lower-body) along with goalie Philipp Grubauer (lower-body) in the injured list. Bednar explained those forwards have not been cleared to skate inside their own recovery but Grubauer is closer to your return and will join the team on the upcoming five-game road trip that starts in Winnipeg on Tuesday.

Rantanen and Landeskog are top-line forwards who normally serve as Nathan MacKinnon’s wingers. Each member of the lineup was selected for the 2019 NHL All-Star Game last January.

“They have assessed daily. They re ramping up some of their work outs, just trying to get closer to getting back to the ice,” Bednar stated of Rantanen and Landeskog.

The Avs are coming from a 9-4 success within the Nashville Predators on Thursday, scoring more goals in one game than they did at the whole five-game losing series they brought to the game.

“I stated it if all those guys got hurt — I like our depth — and when we play the ideal way we can win baseball games with and without those guys. Last game I think we demonstrated it. It started with our workforce, that was good, and our dedication especially on the offensive side of things,” Bednar stated.

MacKinnon is an upper-body accident and jumped Saturday’s skate at the Pepsi Center. But he is scheduled to perform against the Blue Jackets.

“Give a small rest before tonight,” Bednar stated of MacKinnon.
