Denver Sports Omelette: Time to root for the NotPats in the NFL playoffs

DenverSportsOmelettelogo

The race to the Lombardi Trophy is down to only four groups, and should you’re anything like me, there’s just 1 team left to root for: the NotPats.

It’s an yearly convention in the Schubert family — one whose origins all the way back into the autumn of 2004, when flip phones were a thing, too long beards were to get Soggy Bottom Boys and the New England Patriots were on the point of winning their third Super Bowl title in four decades.

The premise of NotPats fandom is straightforward. Regardless of what team is involved, always root for whoever is playing the Patriots. Short of this, root for anybody has got the best chance of beating the Patriots at the next round.

Therefore, in the case of this calendar year ’so called NFL conference championships, which would imply my allegiances lay together with the Kansas City Chiefs as well as in the case of their inevitable loss, the New Orleans Saints. Because the one thing which may fill the empty hole inside me is that a NotPats win.

Regrettably there are a couple of problems with cheering for the NotPats.

First and foremast, the Pats have arguably the very greatest big-game coach (Bill Belichick) at the history of soccer and among the finest big-game quarterback (Tom Brady), also. Even worse, the NotPats possess the uncanny ability to perform the worst possible thing at the most essential moments.

For example, recall when the NotPats’ quarterback kept throwing up at the fourth quarter refused to conduct a hurry-up crime monitoring by 2 scores late at Super Bowl XXXIX? Or what about when the NotPats known as a pass play at the 2-yard line with Marshawn Lynch standing at the back field at the end of Super Bowl XLIX?  More recently, who could forget the time that the NotPats withdrew a 25-point lead to the second half of Super Bowl LI, famously falling back to pass two in a row when they were already within range of a game-clinching field target ?

Heartbreaking minutes, each and each of these, especially when everything you wish to see is a sad Tom Brady.

There just aren’t One of those minutes in the world.

But again, perhaps that’s what makes them so pleasing .
