Denver Sports Omelette: Let’s get weird, Rockies, and throw some money at Bryce Harper

DenverSportsOmelettelogo

This is starting to get awkward.

We’re just a couple of months from pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training, and also the two biggest names on the free agent marketplace still harbor ’t signed a contract.

Perhaps it s because Bryce Harper and Manny Machado are asking for money. Because businesses no longer need to dole out the deals they 17, Perhaps it’s ’ s. Perhaps it s because the 2 harbor ’t been productive as their contact needs warrant.

Perhaps it s the above all.

No matter the case, it so mad to think that two celebrities can’t even appear to locate a home.

Given their age and past generation, we’re talking about gamers who, at the minimum, have four or even five all-star seasons. History suggests there’s probably more than that.

The question would be, why aren’Can there be a small number of teams projecting creative supplies their way?

It’s difficult to envision Rockies brass has given it much consideration, what with their particular problems locking down Nolan Arenado. However, what would be the risk from the Rox throwing a huge money and watching what happens? (Assuming they harbor ’t .)

Together with Arenado along with Trevor Story taking up the side of their infield, it probably doesn’t create a great deal of sense to go after Machado. However, the Rox could readily create space for Harper in right field.

It’s been noted that Harper currently comes with a 10-year, $300 million provide on the table in the Washington Nationals. If that’s the scenario, that the Rockies will be mad to match.

If it’s not, and Harper isn’t prepared to discover a long-term supply to his liking, then float out something. Something similar to two years. Watch exactly what Harper has to say.

This ’s some fairly popular cheese for 2 seasons, and Harper could re-enter free agency as a 27-year-old (the identical era Arenado is now) after taking advantage of Coors Field’s friendlier confines.

On the other side of the equation, the Rockies may add some significant star power to the marquee — something that might take a few eyes away from Broncos Stadium.  And who knows? Perhaps it helps convince Arenado to stay around a bit longer.

Needless to say, it’s extremely likely Harper would never consider this type of bargain. As Patrick Saunders suggested in his Sunday column, this offseason may be about players status shoulder-to-shoulder and holding the line reverse a group of owners they suspect could be colluding.

It never hurts to ask.

What s the worst that can happen?
