ESPN on Monday unveiled a set of bests and worsts from the NFL across a variety of categories and the Broncos landed on both sides of the spectrum concerning free agent signings.

Denver signing quarterback Peyton Manning in 2012 was called the greatest free agent signing. Manning outshined other potential candidates Eagles QB Nick Foles, Chiefs security Tyrann Mathieu, Falcons center Alex Mack and Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmonre, who have been listed on the enthusiast survey.

“John Elway hailed this that ‘raises all boats,’” ESPN’s Jeff Legwold writes. “In Manning’s four seasons, the Broncos won 50 matches, four division titles, went to two Super Bowls, won Super Bowl 50 and set the NFL’s single-season scoring album (606) as the sole 600-point group in league history. ”

The signing went into the Texans in 2016, picking up Broncos QB Brock Osweiler .

“Osweiler threw 15 touchdowns and 16 interceptions before being benched in Week 15 of this 2016 season. It was obvious his upcoming wasn’t Houston because of a deteriorated connection with O’Brien, so Houston got cleared of Osweiler’s contract which second offseason by trading him and a second-round draft selection into the Browns,” ESPN’s Sarah Barshop writes.

Osweiler will return to the Broncos in 2017, platooning with Paxton Lynch and Trevor Siemian.
