The Avalanche halted a semi-free fall down the standings with some flair on Friday night, dominating the visiting New York Rangers 6-1 at Pepsi Center.

After weeks of struggling to start the game with the identical intensity where they finished it, the Avs got off to an outstanding beginning and maintained the campaign during the night to get a much-needed victory.

When the last buzzer mercifully saved New York in the Avalanche onslaught, forward Mikko Rantanen (2 goals and one assist), Nathan MacKinnon (only goal and 2 assists) along with Gabe Landeskog (one goal and one assist), along with defenseman Tyson Barrie (three assists), each had multi-point affairs. And Ryan Graves, who had been obtained from the Rangers in a trade on Feb. 26, netted his first career marker.

It ends up the 1 thing the club was missing was prior forward Cody McLeod.

Even the once-alternate captain jump-started Colorado’s offense when he received a five-minute significant penalty for boarding Avs defenseman Sam Girard just 2:29 into the sport. Girard returned into the contest injury free and Colorado was pleased to have a 2-0 lead during the ensuing man-advantage.

MacKinnon scored after getting a pass from Tyson Barrie at the faceoff circle and burying it behind Rangers copy Alexandar Georgiev because of his team-leading (tied) 25th aim of the season.

Mikko Rantanen pushed the result of a seemingly insurmountable 2-0 a mere 2:13 afterwards when his cross-crease pass was deflected into the net by Rangers rear guard Neal Pionk.

Despite not scoring for the remainder of the frame, the Avs stifled everything New York can muster, holding the visiting club just three shots on goal through the first 20 minutes of play while the Rangers took five fines.

Landeskog then pushed the contest out of reach halfway through the middle frame, following the Rangers took the following four penalties.

Colorado additional three more goals, one from Alexander Kerfoot, Ryan Graves and Rantanen, to set an end to any comeback opportunity the Rangers could dream up.
