Avalanche in playoff picture after another victory over Central Division-leading Winnipeg

The Avalanche is devouring everything in its course and alive.

In response to an eight-game losing skid, the Avs have climbed back in the Western Conference playoff picture by producing factors in six of their last eight games — a stretch capped by Wednesday night’s 7-1 triumph over the Central Division-leading Winnipeg Jets in the Pepsi Center.

Back in leapfrogging that the Chicago Blackhawks for its eighth and final Western Conference playoff spot, the Avs got goals from seven forwards and another goaltending gem out of Semyon Varlamov to beat the Jets in law for the second time in under a week. Carl Soderberg, Mikko Rantanen, Nathan MacKinnon (power play) along with Matt Calvert scored to give the Avs a 4-0 lead and Tyson Jost made it 5-1 to cover a wild, four-goal start to begin the next phase.

Left wing and crew captain Gabe Landeskog scored off a gorgeous feed in Jost late in the third party. Jost finished with a career-high few points before rookie A.J. Greer scored his first career NHL goal in the last minute. Soderberg had two assists for a nighttime.

The Avs, who were coming 3-0 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday, entered the second phase Wednesday having not allowed a goal in five successive intervals, and seven of their past eight.

Varlamov has become the key to all of that.

Winnipeg dropped to. The Jets’ goal by Kyle Connor 1:57 to the third period snapped their 0-for-21 skid on the power play.
