Rantanen, who has a team-tying-high 12 factors to the Avs (7-1-1), was hurt on his first change of the second stage in Monday’s 3-1 loss at St. Louis, suffering what appeared to be a foot or knee injury if he toe-picked the ice while skating out of their defensive zone. He didn’t return.

The Avs, who completed 3-1-1 in their five-game road excursion, had Tuesday off. They play Friday at Las Vegas before finishing a set Saturday against Arizona at the Pepsi Center.

Greer suspended. Avalanche prospect A.J. Greer of the Colorado Eagles, a second-round choice from the 2015 draft by the Avs (39th overall), was suspended for six matches by the American Hockey League on Tuesday because of his actions in Saturday’s alternation against the Milwaukee Admirals.

Greer, 22, fought Josh Healey and both were issued five-minute important penalties. While from the penalty box, Greer exchanged words Jarred Tinordi and came to resist that the Admirals’ defenseman. Tinordi has been issued a three-game suspension Tuesday.
