Tyson Jost, the Avalanche’s 2016 first-round draft pick, sees the bright side of AHL demotion

LOVELAND — Avalanche ahead Tyson Jost said Wednesday he’s taken his demotion to the American Hockey League’s Colorado Eagles “with a grain of salt” and certainly will return to the NHL club following week a much better player.

Jost, who played 43 games with the Avs prior to being reassigned for their new AHL affiliate Jan. 17, has three goals and four points in six games with the Eagles. He explained the Avalanche’s plan was to allow him to return to the NHL group after playing six AHL games, but he suffered an upper-body accident late in the sixth game, and it has spent the past week recovering. The Avs’ 2016 first-round draft selection (No. 10 overall) is currently scheduled to play during this weekend’s two-game series against the visiting Stockton Heat prior to his expected call-up to the Avalanche, that concludes a three-game excursion at Boston on Sunday.

“Those six games were great for me to go and play. I guess everything happens for a reason,” Jost, 20, said after the Eagles’ practice. “I just beginning working out hard and got to take it with a grain of salt. This ’s something I really do anyplace I go. I would like to better myself as a participant. Therefore it was pleasant to get a great deal of ice, get puck touches, play the power play and all that great stuff. It was unlucky that I got hurt in the last game. ”

Jost along with defenseman Conor Timmins — who also has been with the Avs most of the season, albeit injured reserve — practiced in red non-contact sweaters Wednesday, a day after Timmins was sentenced to the Eagles. The 32nd choice from the 2017 draft has fought concussion-like symptoms since last summer, but Wednesday could have been his first full team practice since last season.

Timmins, 20and the network, are not yet talking.

Jost said he hopes to provide crime when he starts his second stint with the Avs. He’s six goals and 15 points with the large team and was no longer a part of the No. 1 power play before he was reassigned.

“Obviously, I need to bring ” he explained, some crime. “The Avs civilization, we want to be winners. I need to get back and help the group get a few drops, provide some crime and be responsible from the D station. I need to play with the game as I understand how. ”

Frankie’s yield. Eagles goalie Pavel Francouzan AHL all-star that moves from “Frankie,” will return to action Friday after finishing the all-star game and last week’s series in Tucson with a groin injury. He and rookie forward Martin Kaut — the Avs’ 2018 first-round draft pick — attended the Avalanche’s 6-3 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets in the Pepsi Center on Tuesday. Colorado dropped its fourth consecutive game to fall to 2-8 in its last 10.

Francouz could help the Avs if expensive goalies Semyon Varlamov or Philipp Grubauer eventually become unavailable. Colorado has allowed three goals or more in 35 of 52 games.

“I really don ’t think it’s just about goaltending. You always play as a group,” Francouz said of the struggling Avs. “I will ’t actually predict what I could do but I’m here to be prepared for the call-up, anyhow, in any situation. ”

Francouz made two looks for the Avs in December, making 33 saves to get a sparkling .943 spare percentage.

“I was glad that I could sense that I could play with there. For me to find that feeling, it was pretty big,” Francouz explained. “It’therefore the league in the entire world to play and I could sense it right away. ”
