Australian psych-pop act Tame Impala sent ripples through the Denver concert scene earlier this year with a ticketing controversy that left many fans feeling burned — and promoter AEG Presents Rocky Mountains canceling purchases following allegations of fraud.
Now the band, led by Kevin Parker, is returning to satisfy demand at a sports arena that’s at least four times as large as Mission’s maximum, 3,950-person capacity.
Tame Impala will headline the Pepsi Center on July 30 as part of the band’s North American tour with Perfume Genius, with tickets on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13.
The best part? Tickets are relatively affordable, at least for a Pepsi Center show. Passes for the 8 p.m. concert will run $48.25-$78.25, not including service fees, and are available at altitudetickets.com or by calling 303-405-1100.
The Denver date precedes the release of Tame Impala’s new album, “The Slow Rush,” which drops on Interscope Feb. 14. The tour will kick off March 9 at San Diego’s Pechanga Arena and finish Aug. 7 at The Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Wash.

American Express card members can access a pre-sale beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11 through 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12.
Today’s announcement shouldn’t come as too much of a shock: Both of Tame Impala’s Oct 7 and 8 concerts at Mission Ballroom were sold out, following similarly packed shows at Red Rocks Amphitheatre and other area venues.

“As any Tame Impala fan can attest, the band’s music feels exceptionally experiential, with trippy, undulating soundscapes that ebb from one ear through your brain and out the other, washing over you,” Denver Post Entertainment Editor Beth Rankin wrote in her review of the Aug. 7 concert. “At least that’s how it feels when the volume’s way up.”
