What should you get from a guy dressed in black with patience? A Tool Fan, which ’s exactly what. Tool’s latest release, Fear Inoculum, eventually dropped to our stratosphere a whole 13 years since the band’s past release, 10,000 Days, and is serving as among the most important records of 2019. The four-piece group has commenced on a Fear Inoculum Tour,” and introduced their critically acclaimed album on Denver for show and tell. The tour stop was meant to be for a single day –Tuesday, October 15 — but popular demand affected an extra functionality on Wednesday, October 16.
The Pepsi Center filled both nighttime with cult-like fans keen to find buddies Danny Carey (in a full Nuggets uniform) on drums, Adam Jones on guitarJustin Chancellor on bass and also, naturally, James Maynard Keenan using his vocals to complete the Tool sound. As his mates rocked their hard instrumentals, Keenan stood perched on programs on either side of Carey on the drums, supplying eccentric dance moves together with his signature voice.
True to Tool’so form, the stage set up was completely integrated for multiple phases of visuals during the night. A fringe curtain swept in the front of the ring and a few times during the night outperforming the artists. The pulsating tools pumped out their rock-hard favorites, simplistic yet styled and dashed with Keenan’s lyrics. Regardless of his appearance, Keenan took moments to connect with the audience. The singer rarely talked, but popped in to the microphone intermittently to kid. “Stop me if you have noticed this one before,” joked Keenan. “But it smells similar to marijuana in here. ”
Finally, the curtain chose a back seat into impressive lasers which darted out from the stage to the faces on the heads that were methodically . Smoke crept from up beneath the stage, making an ambiance for tracks that were beloved like “The Pot” along with “Forty-Six and two. ” The group had enacted a rigorous no camera coverage for the day, which encouraged focus on the stage without the hinderance of filming for Snaps and Stories.
The group wrapped up their set and hopped off the stage to get a break. A countdown projected on-screen assured fans when they’d return, leaving the guesswork if they braved the trek into the restroom for what they’d miss out. Upon their arrival, Carey ventured into the spotlight to begin with to fend off an impressive solo (that included a giant gong) before being joined by his comrades. Before the final song, “Stinkfist,” Keenan declared that the ending was near and given his fans consent to capture the final lick of night. There was a hand in the audience left without a phone to capture the remaining moments of the series.
Fear Inoculum marks a new chapter in Tool’s profession — but however long this chapter is intended to take remains a mystery. Fans and critics alike agree the album takes their distinct sound and refines it farther into itself, along with the live performance which communicates the show lives up to the expected performance art.
