On a night after Denver lost two starters to injury — shooting protector Gary Harris (ankle sprain) and electricity ahead Paul Millsap (facial laceration) — Barton awakened with 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting with 10 rebounds, four assists, along with a game-high plus-23 score.
Barton’s defensive attempt was equally impressive since Heat All-Star shooting guard Jimmy Butler was limited to 25 percent shooting (3 of 12) using three turnovers and a game-low minus-23 score. Barton held Butler in test in the second half of Harris ruled from this match.

“When you give him a matchup such as a Jimmy Butler, such as a Paul George, certain players along with marquee names, he gets up for all those guys,” Malone said. “Jimmy is a All-NBA-type participant and I believe Will was locked in. He knew what we were trying to do as a team, but also known what he had to do to attempt to make life hard for Jimmy Butler. ”
An October 2018 hip injury derailed Barton’s climbing Denver career arc as he struggled upon return and was benched for Torrey Craig final postseason. Barton now says to where he had been before the hip injury he believes & ldquo; pretty back & rdquo. That’ll be tested again Friday night after NBA Finals competitor Philadelphia visits the Pepsi Center.
“I certainly found my optimism,” Barton said.
