Jazz Singer-Songwriter Norah Jones

Norah Jones has earned nine Grammy awards over her eight albums released. Visions is her collaboration with producer Leon Michels (El Madmo, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings).

Come Away With Me was an outstanding success upon its release in 2002. It revolutionized piano-forward jazz and pop for a new millennium audience.

Born in New York City

After the release of her debut album, Come Away With Me, Norah Jones quickly rose to stardom. Her second album Feels Like Home followed in 2004 and showcased a mix of jazz, folk and country. Jones collaborated with numerous musicians like Foo Fighters’ drummer Dave Grohl and Ryan Adams from Ryan Adams Band; even acting in Blueberry Nights movie!

Visions is Norah Jones’ ninth studio release and was produced by Leon Michels of Dan Auerbach and The Black Keys fame. Additionally, Leon Michels is part of Sharon Jones’ Dap-Kings band as well. On this record you’ll hear Adam Levy and Jesse Harris on guitar as well as bassist Lee Alexander – as well as numerous instruments like piano Wurlitzer electric piano and pump organ.

Raised in Dallas

Norah Jones hails from Dallas, where her mother’s extensive music collection served as a source of musical influence on her own unique tastes. She studied jazz piano at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts before attending University of North Texas to earn both vocalist and composer Down Beat Student Music Awards.

Come Away With Me was released in 2002 to critical and commercial acclaim and was an immediate commercial and critical success, drawing together several highly esteemed jazz musicians for an album which became one of the highest selling records at that time. Following its success came additional albums including Foo Fighters collaborations as well as her partnership with Ryan Adams on two other releases.

She currently resides in Brooklyn, New York City with her husband and two children. Since the pandemic hit, she has utilized social media to post #StayAtHome performances as well as dedicate songs to victims.

Moved to New York City in 1999

Jones initially arrived in New York City with the intent of becoming a jazz singer. She found work performing in local restaurants and clubs before connecting with Jesse Harris’ circle of singer-songwriters who met frequently to jam together.

Ravi Shankar, an Indian sitar player, raised her daughter Sue. Sue provided musical inspiration through her record collection that included Etta James and Billie Holiday as examples of talent to draw upon for inspiration.

Come Away With Me was released in 2002 and immediately captured the interest of those weary of Top 40 and hip-hop music, before feeling at home with Feels Like Home two years later. Wong Kar Wai directed Blueberry Nights which she appeared in as well.

Norah Jones has won nine Grammy Awards and remains one of the top-selling female jazz artists of all time. Additionally, she has appeared in several movies such as My Blueberry Nights and Ted.

Her debut album, Come Away with Me, became an unexpected Billboard 200 hit and earned multiple Grammy nominations including for Best New Artist and Album of the Year.

While at the University of North Texas, she studied jazz piano and sang in the UNT Jazz Singers choir – here she met future collaborator Jesse Harris! After graduation she moved to New York City where they founded their band together.

Jones is also an enthusiastic supporter of various charitable causes; she has collaborated with organizations like Livestrong, Gram Parsons Foundation and Iraq Veterans Against the War.
