Deftones reveal new album is at “mixing stage” and announce return of long-term producer

Deftones have revealed their forthcoming new record is primed for a 2020 launch, while also confirming that producer Terry Date is back in the helm.

Even the California outfit, who are due to hit the street this summer, took to Instagram yesterday (February 24) to discuss with an in-studio shot. From the black and white photo, frontman Chino Moreno is seen working on the desk along with Date.

In its caption, it’s said the picture was taken on May 25 and Deftones were recording with Date somewhere in Los Angeles.

The producer previously worked on Deftones’ second LP ‘Around the Fur’ (1997), in addition to its follow-up ‘White Pony’ (2000). He also ’s produced stuff for the likes of Bring Me The Horizon, Slayer, Slipknot and Limp Bizkit.

After affirming the producer of their album, Deftones revealed that the job is in its stage and will materialise this year.

The upgrade was granted to Australian outlet Mixdown by drummer Abe Cunningham, who also shed a little light on how the band approached the recording procedure.

“We did things a bit differently this time,” he explained. &ldquoWe cultivated everything out over the span of a year or two, as opposed to blasting through in one go. The procedure has been mixed with about a fracture, so that we agreed upon. ”

He added: “Being rested and taking off that time really made us appreciate what we’re doing more. & hellip; it & rsquo; s beautiful thing when we & rsquo; re coming up with things together and smiling and laughing, like when we’re 17. ”

Last November, vocalist Moreno reported that Deftones’ new album would “definitely” arrive at 2020, which they’d already recorded an album’s worth of songs in that point.

Deftones are all set to perform Download and Mad Cool festivals before embarking on an extensive US tour in late July.
