CHSAA state wrestling preview: Names and story lines to know heading into the Pepsi Center

With the CHSAA state wrestling tournament running Thursday through Saturday at the Pepsi Center, here will be the biggest names and story lines to see.

Pomona is the frontrunner in Class 5A, as the Panthers attract a class-best 13 qualifiers to the Pepsi Center using every one of their wrestlers capable of netting team points. Other returning big-school winners include Monarch’s Vince Cornella (wrestling at 113), Grand Junction’s Dawson Collins (120) and Grandview senior Fabian Santillan (132) in 5A; and Windsor’s Will VomBaur (120), Discovery Canyon’s Patrick Allis (126), Windsor’s Dominick Serrano (132), Longmont’s Drake Engelking (170) and also Windsor’s Isaiah Salazar (182) in 4A.

Scheduletickets. Thursday’s action starts with preliminaries for Class 2A and 3A at two p.m., using big-school preliminaries scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday night.  Friday’s quarterfinals are at 9 a.m. for 2A/3A and also 12:45 p.m. for 4A/5A, followed by semifinals for all courses at 6:45 p.m. Saturday’s Parade of Champions starts at 6:30 pm, together with title games place to get underway then.
