Billy Joel and Rod Stewart will perform at Cleveland Browns Stadium for their inaugural concert together on September 13th – marking the inaugural performance of two Rock & Roll Hall-of-Famers together! Tickets go on sale to the general public Friday February 2nd; an exclusive Citi presale begins Monday January 29th at 10 am ET.
Both singer-songwriters have been active for decades, scoring numerous hits across different genres. Their music has reached global audiences and inspired younger artists who take cues from them.
Concerts of this scale are significant events for Cleveland. Concerts can draw people who wouldn’t normally attend football games into their stadium. That increases revenue for Cleveland leaders while simultaneously providing tourists with a glimpse into Cleveland and showing them why economic development matters so much to its leaders.
Joel just announced through social media that he’s releasing “Turn the Lights Back On,” his first new original song since more than 16 years. Additionally, this concert announcement comes only days before celebrating 20 years since being inducted into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Joel has won four Grammys, earned the Grammy Legend Award and been honored with induction into Songwriters Hall of Fame – among his long list of accomplishments are iconic hits like ‘Piano Man’ and ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’.
Rod Stewart, English musician, guitarist and singer first rose to fame with Faces during the 1970s before going on to release solo albums of soft ballads to powerful rock songs with a raspy, powerful tone. Stewart was honored with induction into both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as an individual artist (in 1994) and as part of Faces (in 2012).
At a news conference Thursday afternoon, city officials and Live Nation executives made the official announcement of Destination Cleveland President/CEO David Gilbert’s departure, Haslam Sports Group partner Whitney Haslam Johnson’s participation and Senior Vice President of Marketing & Sponsorship Sales Barry Gabel being present for this milestone event.
Gabel noted that hosting concerts of this magnitude requires many moving pieces to come together in order for it to succeed, such as Joel/Stewart’s show at Cleveland Browns Stadium in September – tickets go on sale to the general public February 2, according to 3News reports.
