Success on one of the world’s major music markets would normally be enough for most groups, but not ENHYPEN, the inaugural group to debut under BE:LIFT Lab–a joint venture between Big Hit Entertainment and CJ E&M that boasts acts like BTS and TXT–which marks just their beginnings.
ENHYPEN’s name alludes to their use of hyphens as connecting elements of different words together to form new ones, telling multifaceted and transformative stories through music. Their songs touch upon everything from trainees’ transformation into top idols through group journey and individual development into agents of their own destinies as agents themselves; also more intangible topics such as their experiences as Gen-Z kids to similarities between humans and vampires.
Jungwon, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Heeseung and Sunoo emerged as winners from 23 hopefuls on I-LAND to make up I-Land’s final seven members and debuted with their mini album Manifesto: Day 1 in November 2020. Since then they have released two EPs and been on an extensive world tour.
The members have an eye-catching presence during their shows, featuring sleek choreography and pop-punk music that leans more preppy than obnoxious. Their latest single “Blessed-Cursed,” with its head-bopping beat and singalong lyrics is sure to please young audiences. Furthermore, K-pop has advanced by moving away from its more manufactured beats towards an authentic casual swagger which feels more honest and fun than other boy bands.
As live acts, they’ve already made an impressionful statement at two sold-out Tokyo Dome shows and on a US leg of their Fate World Tour that visited Los Angeles, Glendale Dallas Newark Chicago. On November 17th they release their forthcoming album Orange Blood.
Though they have found global fame, the members have maintained close ties with their fanbase ENGENEs while striving to be their best in front of an audience. While on tour they made sure to interact with fans between songs; taking even time during NCC Stadium shows to interact with attendees or even take group selfies!
As a truly global boy band, its members have drawn from their international roots and formed strong connections with their audience. At their concert in Manila, Jay told his fans about when his father relocated his family from Australia back home; it made him nostalgic to hear ENGENEs singing along in their native tongue!
ENHYPEN has made their mark with their debut mini-album release and are sure to become one of the key acts in K-pop. A force to be reckoned with, we cannot wait to see what comes next from ENHYPEN!
