Avalanche completes sweep of Coyotes before fans at Gila River Arena

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Playing facing fans for the first time in almost a year, the Avalanche collected two wins and a maximum four points at consecutive-night games at Gila River Arena.

Colorado finished the sweep Saturday with a 6-2 triumph against the Arizona Coyotes, who led in the 2 games which comprised limited fans but seemingly more rooting for its people than those hosts. The Avs got aims in the finale in Nathan MacKinnon, Jacob MacDonald, Gabe Landeskog, Joonas Donskoi, Tyson Jost and Pierre-Edouard, along with goalie Philipp Grubauer collected his 10th win before a crowd of 3,224.

“I had three or four paintings of ‘Foppa’ growing up in my room,” Landeskog stated of Forsberg. “It goes without saying that he was a big role model for me and a person I looked up to. It’s you set as a goal to tie one of your idols within an Avs blouse, or to maneuver him for this matter, however I’m convinced as it’s all said and done it’s likely to be cool, no doubt. ”

The Avs on Saturday were missing top-pair defenseman Cale Makar and veteran forward Matt Calvert, that were both scratched due to upper-body injuries. Calvert, who has a history of concussions, also missed Friday’s match after becoming injured during pregame warmups, however, it is not concussion-related. Burakovsky got the assist for the 200th of his career.

Arizona tied it 1-1 at 14:13 of the next period when Hjalmarsson slid a pass to Clayton Keller from the stage, and Keller, from between the circles, redirected it beyond Grubauer. However, the Avs regained the lead just 3:02 afterwards when MacDonald, a journeyman defenseman, banked the puck off Raanta and to the net to some wrap-around.

The Avs stay on the street for matches Monday and Wednesday at San Jose. They finish the week with home matches at Ball Arena against Anaheim Friday and Saturday.
