Denver Sports Omelette: All hail Tad Boyle, the uncommonly competent Pac-12 basketball coach

DenverSportsOmelettelogo

From the land of their maligned, the qualified person is king.

This is the case for Tad Boyle and his Colorado Buffaloes guys ’s basketball team — a perfectly fine collection of college hoops talent that is now running roughshod on a downright dreadful Pac-12.

Somehow, the team of the man whose has pulled on a inverse Mike MacIntyre. As opposed to allow a heartbreaking property loss to Oregon State split his team — as it did MacIntyre’s this fall — Boyle has rallied the Buffs for their very best stretch of convention basketball because they combined the Pac-12.

Five matches, five wins — such as a first-ever road sweep of these L.A. schools around the West Coast.

Poor as the Conference of Champions might be — so bad, not even Bill Walton could spare it — it takes great training to pull off a turnaround similar to that.

If Boyle as well as the Buffs keep up this, an individual might argue he should be named the conference coach of the year. A sizing up of the competition reveals that out of Oregon State’s Wayne Tinkle and Washington’s Mike Hopkins, it’s tough to discover another coach of consideration.

Don’t consider me? Here’s a rundown of this, um, applicants …

12. Wyking Jones, California –Teams which have more wins from Pac-12 competition compared to Golden Bears: Liberty, Princeton, Montana State, Belmont, Texas Southern, New Mexico State, Santa Clara, Seattle.

11. Steve Alford, UCLA — Alford lost his job until the new year began. Count that as a triumph: He has to observe Pac-12 basketball.

10. Sean Miller, Arizona — Miller now has more FBI investigations than Final Four looks after 10 seasons in Tucson.

9. Ernie Kent, Washington State — Vaulted two spots after an improbable road sweep of the Arizona colleges … that tripled the team’s conference win total.

8. Andy Enfield, Southern Cal: The architect of Dunk City doesn’t seem long for Heritage Hall after wasting yet another gifted roster. Naturally, the same has been said of Clay Helton, and he s cashing Tommy Trojan’s tests.

7. Dana Altman, Oregon: Altman recruited the country ’s third-best freshman course this offseason, and now has the conference’s eighth-best record.

6. Jerod Haase, Stanford: The Cardinal have won five of six and only place 104 around UCLA, that are more impressive if Stanford wasn’t the third-best team in the Bay Area (supporting WCC forces USF along with Saint Mary’s).

5. Bobby Hurley, Arizona State: The Sun Devils are great enough to overcome Kansas, and bad enough to reduce Washington State… in the home.

4. Larry Krystkowiak, Utah: Few coaches get more out of their roster than Krystkowiak. If not for home declines to the Oregon schools, the Utes will be in the conference title race.

3. Tad Boyle, Colorado: The Buffs were wandering amid a missing year only a few weeks ago. But as we all know, Buffalo walk in the storm.

2. Wayne Tinkle, Oregon State: One of these days, my wife will stop giggling each time she finds the name Tinkle. I expect.

1. Mike Hopkins, Washington: There’s something to be said for always beating the teams you should conquer. Not a whole lot, but something.
