Journeyman minor-leaguer Andrew Agozzino has a big night for the Avalanche in his first NHL game since 2015-16

In the 470th game of his professional baseball career, but only his 11th at the NHL and first since the 2015-16 season, center Andrew Agozzino scored his first goal at the highest degree.

Agozzino, 28, had been on Cloud 9 Monday night after serving lead the Avalanche into a 3-0 victory over Vegas to snap Colorado’s six-game losing streak at the Pepsi Center. Agozzino, that had been called up from the AHL’s Colorado Eagles on Sunday and forced his NHL season debut from the Knightshad an assist in just 6:27 of ice .

“I’ve been waiting a long time for this moment. It was particular,” Agozzino said of his own goal that gave the Avalanche a 2-0 lead. “Tough to put into words. Lots of emotion once I saw it go in. Pure excitement. Until it comes you dream about that goal. It s been somewhat longer for me so I love it far longer and definitely something I look forward to discussing with my loved ones. ”

Agozzino directed the Eagles with 50 points waited a long time to find the telephone number. Eagles forward Sheldon Dries, Vladislav Kamenev, A.J. Greer, Dominic Toninato, Logan O’Connor and Tyson Jost (development stint) had previously been called up from the Avs.

“I came up with the mindset try and help this team, in all aspect it had been,” Agozzino said. “Glad I did this. It s big two points for us. Just a special night for me. ”

Expect Agozzino to again be in the lineup Wednesday when Colorado concludes a three-game homestand from Winnipeg. Agozzino centered a line with wingers A.J. Greer and J.T. Compher on Monday.

“Did a really nice job,” Avs trainer Jared Bednar said. “Smart, intelligent player. Produced had a poise with the puck. ”

Agozzino signed with the Avalanche in 2012 after completing his major-junior career using the Niagra IceDogs of the Ontario League. He then played three full seasons for the AHL’s Lake Erie Monsters and made his NHL debut with Colorado late in his next season (2014-15), playing one game for the Avalanche. He performed the 2015-16 season with the AHL’s San Antonio Rampage (41 games) and Avalanche (nine) before registering for the St. Louis Blues as a unrestricted free agent. He performed the full 2016-17 period with the Blues’ AHL affiliate, the Chicago Wolves.

Agozzino signed with the Avalanche at July 2017 to begin his second stint playing all of 2017-18 together with the Rampage.

Agozzino is the fifth Avalanche player to create his first NHL goal this season. Toninato did it Feb. 14
