The Rise of Adele

Adele has amassed an A-Team, comprised of world-class producers and managers who help her keep her show on tour, while she battles through personal setbacks in an admirable fashion.

Adele quickly garnered new fans through appearances on popular US shows like Saturday Night Live and David Letterman, drawing new audiences in. By the time 25 arrived, listeners knew exactly what to expect: soulful pop ballads inspired by Etta James as a child idolized as role models by this soulful artist who idolized Etta James growing up.

1. Born Adele Elisabeth Hasselbach in Tottenham

Early jobs as a cashier at a drugstore, waitress at local restaurants, summer camp counselor and babysitter helped shape her work ethic. Today she remains passionately supportive of veterans and has been active with TeamRWB from its inception. Additionally, she serves on the advisory board for Danita’s Children, an organization providing education and hospital care to Haitian children.

Celebrity Net Worth reports that “Rolling in the Deep” singer Lady Gaga possesses an estimated net worth of $220 Million, having received numerous major music awards and being one of the best-selling recording artists ever.

2. Studied at the Brit School for Performing Arts & Technology in Croydon

The BRIT School, open to students for free attendance, boasts an impressive list of successful graduates such as Adele, Amy Winehouse and Jessie J – with many others having gone on to create hit records themselves. Now it is offering its star-making expertise to FTSE 100 companies through an exciting new consultancy called The BRIT for Business.

Adele’s debut album 19, and later her sophomore release 21 achieved unprecedented success; both achieved chart top status for an extended number one run by female solo artists in chart history. Additionally, she won the Brit Award Critics’ Choice and embarked on a global tour.

She has collaborated with some of the biggest musicians, and is best-known for her distinctive voice. Additionally, she can play the piano, ukulele and acoustic guitar as well as drums, celesta and cowbell on her albums.

3. Released her first single “Rolling in the Deep” in 2010

Adele’s debut single “Rolling in the Deep” was both commercial and critical success; reaching number one in 12 countries before remaining there for seven weeks at number one.

Adele sings of her experiences of heartbreak and depression in this song, drawing from personal memories of loss and breakups to shape its lyrics.

Adele has made this song her signature ballad, with powerful vocals and rising instrumentations, that has come to symbolize all the emotions evoked by Adele’s music. Since 2008 she has continued exploring themes of heartbreak and betrayal on albums 19 (2008), 21 (2015) and 25 (2016) as well as co-writing James Bond theme “Skyfall” alongside composer Andrew Epworth.

4. Released her first album “21” in 2011

Adele cemented her place as one of the premier singer-songwriters of her generation with the release of 21. This album bears its name after Adele was 21 at the time it was produced; its songs describe experiences of heartache and loss.

Critics were generally positive in their reviews and included it on various year-end best-of lists. 21 was nominated for the 2011 Barclaycard Mercury Prize and won Album of the Year honors from both Grammy Awards.

She collaborated with songwriters such as Paul Epworth, Ryan Tedder (OneRepublic), Dan Wilson and Jim Abbiss for this album; many songs came directly from her experiences of breakups and its aftermath; thus creating a soulful album.

5. Released her second album “25” in 2013

Adele released her second album “25” in 2015. It immediately broke sales records across multiple countries and spent 23 weeks at number one on the US Billboard chart – becoming one of the longest-running number one albums by any female artist ever released.

Adele’s breakthrough success with 21 marked an evolution from her previous sound. While her songs still provided pop delights and powerful ballads, her influence leant more towards gospel influences. Danger Mouse of Gnarls Barkley fame also contributed his talents as producer on 21 by using haunting keys mixed with hip-hop beats in “River Lea”. This track proved Adele could evoke teardrops from even hardened drill sergeants.

6. Released her third album “25” in 2016

After the incredible success of her second album 21 (2011), Adele took an extended hiatus from music. When she returned with 25 in 2015, it quickly became one of the highest-grossing pop releases ever.

At 25, she broadened her musical palette through collaborations with hitmakers like Danger Mouse, Max Martin, and the Smeezingtons – adding elements of dancehall, funk, and 1980s R&B into her signature sound while cultivating an independent space beyond musical trends. But at the same time she found freedom within music for writing grandiose ballads that didn’t fit any context at all.

She used this style of musical performance to connect emotionally with listeners even in today’s age of streaming services.
