Natural acoustics of rock formations create an unforgettable musical experience. Creation and Ship Rock offer excellent sound transference through their curved walls.

History of the Amphitheatre

Red Rocks Amphitheatre opened for concerts 116 years ago, when it was then known as Garden of the Titans. Today, its majestic sandstone outcroppings comprise part of geological Fountain Formation carved over millions of years. As it’s an unforgettable natural spectacle with lots of natural charm that musicians love playing, performers from around the globe come here for concerts.

John Brisben Walker made this site famous as a musical mecca in the early 1900s when he staged concerts on temporary platforms to make money from their sales.

Rebuilding of the amphitheater began in 1936 with assistance from members of the Civilian Conservation Corps. Today, its Visitor Center houses educational displays and features a Performers Hall of Fame; guided tours can also be taken there; yoga and movie nights are among many activities available at this park.

The Venue’s acoustics

Burnham Hoyt designed this landmark amphitheater, boasting both breathtaking natural scenery and spectacular acoustic splendor. Set among towering red sandstone monoliths in an unparalleled natural setting and offering spectacular Colorado sunset views, its amphitheater is truly unforgettable.

This venue stands out with its natural rock formation and bowl shape that allow sound to echo throughout its amphitheater seating area, free from curtains, upholstery or railings that would interfere with sound quality.

Over time, its exceptional acoustics have attracted concerts by an impressive roster of musicians – from Beatles legends to U2. It was even designated a national historic landmark with nearby Mount Morrison Civilian Conservation Corps Camp and boasts a visitor center filled with photographs and awards won by this legendary venue – such as Pollstar Magazine’s Best Small Outdoor Venue Award 11 times consecutively! However, due to its altitude and steep seating rake arrangement outside the amphitheater itself, music cannot travel as far beyond.
