Grayson Stadium can be found between Savannah’s historic brick buildings, Spanish moss-covered oak trees, and a city park – where baseball is played with passion and style! Here, game day action unfolds with speed.
Savannah Bananas are a professional traveling team based out of Savannah that combine baseball’s sporting purity with entertainment that would leave most Major League teams green with envy.
The Bananas originated as an amateur college summer league team in 2016, but quickly went viral, filling stadiums and drawing millions of followers to social media with their pregame and in-game antics. By 2022, they left Coastal Plain League and transitioned into professional travel team composed of current college standouts, former pro players, as well as retired Major Leaguers.
Banana Nanas are known for their festive attire – yellow tuxedo-clad pep bands, male cheerleading squad known as the Man-Nanas and line dancing grandmothers called Banana Nanas are among them – but also have several rules designed to keep games moving quickly and keep fans engaged during each match. Stepping out of the batter’s box without permission results in a strike; bunting is prohibited; mound visits should be discouraged; and running clocks regularly tick away on matches.
One of the most impressive aspects of watching the Bananas play is their excitement – every player the Guardian spoke with showed genuine delight at being part of this show and experiencing all its magic.
And the show never ceases: during games, Bananas break into an iconic song-and-dance routine reminiscent of their signature routine; following this, a video tribute to military veterans plays. After games have concluded, players mingle with crowds in the stands; those not playing may join other players on the field to play catch with young fans.
Although the Bananas have their own performing roster, they often engage in challenger games with other professional travel teams in Franklin Field’s 4,000-seat ballpark. Their opponents vary depending on which day it is; on Friday night, for instance, they’ll play against Party Animals owner Chris Cole before joining forces for another doubleheader on Saturday.
