The Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Red Rocks Amphitheatre is an unparalleled musical experience and must be witnessed first-hand to be fully appreciated. Home to concerts, movie shoots, television series filming, and awards from leading industry mag Pollstar multiple times as America’s Best Outdoor Venue over time – its majestic beauty has inspired and changed countless musicians over time – both new and veteran alike.

Over 160 million years, earth’s plates shaped this amphitheater’s walls into distinctive sandstone formations which give it its distinctive natural acoustics. Furthermore, its walls contain fossils from Jurassic Period such as those belonging to a 40-foot sea serpent and flying reptiles! For an interactive start to your visit to this amazing amphitheatre experience, make your way directly to its visitor’s center where all acts that have ever played there since 1872 are displayed along with memorabilia from past shows as well as memorabilia from previous performances!

John Brisben Walker first saw Colorado’s natural rock formations as ideal settings for musical performances at the dawn of the 20th century. He began staging shows there and discovered their incredible acoustics; soon enough, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt supported this idea through his Works Progress Administration and Civilian Conservation Corps programs.

Construction on the amphitheater began in 1936 and was finished five years later, opening to the public in June 1941.

The amphitheater provides musicians with ideal acoustics for projecting their sound and engaging their audiences during performances, yet its extreme elevation and weather conditions present unique challenges during shows. Therefore, fans are advised to arrive early and explore the area until finding a spot which best meets their needs.

With its capacity of 9,525, this amphitheater provides the ideal environment to host some of today’s top musical acts, from Dave Matthews Band to U2. Concerts have included performances by such acts as U2, Kendrick Lamar, and many more.

Concertgoers can experience breathtaking natural scenery surrounding the stage during concerts. The amphitheater walls exhibit slopes and tilts caused by successive freeze-thaw cycles that shape its stone formations, including Ship Rock on the south wall of “Creation Rock,” both known for their striking appearance resembling ship masts or temple-like architecture jutting skyward as they appear like ships or temples, respectively.

Red Rocks Amphitheatre has long been considered a premier venue for musical performances. Over its 63 year history, this historic amphitheatre has hosted legendary acts as well as diverse musical genres (such as U2’s Garden of the Titans album). Concerts take place year-round here and tickets can be bought online.
