As NHL training facilities reopen Monday, Avalanche among teams choosing to wait

Monday marked the start of Phase 2 at the NHL’s reopening program, however not all teams, such as the Avalanche, made to hold workouts or voluntary skates at practice facilities.

Players have more than a month to prepare for Phase 3, that is official training teams which won’t begin before July 10 at the earliest. Stage 4 is the return to play at a 24-team Stanley Cup playoff in late July or early August.

An Avalanche spokesman said the team wonvoluntary work have been organized by ’ t before Wednesday or Thursday. Some Avs are skating in Lakewood and other Denver-area rinks.

The U.S.-Canada boundary has been closed to nonessential travel until June 21.  Avalanche captain Gabe Landeskog was residing in Toronto throughout the pandemic plus it s questionable if will be able to return to Denver earlier then.

The defending Stanley Cup champions, the St. Louis Blues, are also deciding to hold off on training at club facilities for the time being.
