DENVER (KDVR) — Mayor Michael B. Hancock, Denver Police Department Chief Paul Pazen along with Denver District Attorney Beth McCann Dealt with the People in a Press conference on Sunday.
Saturday protests began as peaceful demonstrations and turned violent and damaging after the Denver mandatory curfew of 8 p.m. passed. McCann dealt with the calm negative and pleaded to find a remedy.
“I stand prepared to work and collaborate with people that are thinking about locating lasting alternatives to racism in our methods of government,” McCann explained. “We could work together to get the hard conversations and create alternatives that work to construct confidence and keep our amazing Denver community protected. ”
Dumpsters have been turned over blocking intersections and decide on a blaze. Businesses ready for harm, looting and vandalism but not all have been lucky to go unscathed. Graffiti and vandalism spanned the Capitol and establishments.
“These are members of our community. These buildings around us will be the buildings. You’re ruining your buildings,” McCann explained. “This is not Denver. This is not who we are in this city. ”
“To any who have infiltrated these protests with the goal of sowing discord and compromising the message of this protest, stay home. ” McCann lasted.
Three police officers and a civilian were injured when a moving automobile struck them Logan and Colfax. Also, the DPD confiscated several dangerous items throughout the protests.
“We’ve had many officers released and treated one which remains, in the clinic,” Pazen said. “However, each of them needs to return and fulfill their obligation of keeping our community safe. ”
Hancock focused with all the protests and presentations.
“We are in the middle of a pandemic. We’d see and have witnessed people demonstrating in our area as well as later hours when its not so calm, without face caps,” Hancock explained.
“We wish to remind everybody and invite you weekend go down to the Pepsi Center and have tested for COVID-19 for free. ”
The press conference took place in front of the Capitol building.
