Three Nuggets return for individual workouts, according to league source

The Denver Nuggets are taking a cautious approach now that the NBA has slowly started its resumption of basketball activities.

Three Nuggets showed up for voluntary individual workouts Monday, the first day the Pepsi Center’s practice facility was re-opened, according to a league source. Since only a handful of players are currently in Denver and there’s still unease about the extensive protocols necessary to hold individual workouts, the facility was closed Tuesday.

The plan is for the facility to be open several times a week for select workout blocks, and the expectation, for now, is that the same three players will continue using the facility. Reserve forward Vlatko Cancar was one of the three who took advantage of the gym time on Monday.

Of the handful of Nuggets who are still in Denver, some are simply more content with their own arrangements.

Monday’s workout consisted of the players getting shots up and going through a series of physical exercises, all at a safe social distance. Team staffers who were present included head strength and conditioning coach Felipe Eichenberger, assistant strength and conditioning coach Claus Souza, assistant coach John Beckett and director of player development Ognjen Stojakovic.

Front-of-bench coaches, including head coach Michael Malone, aren’t allowed to observe the workouts — even from a distance.
