I harbor ’t really been “religious” for a while now, however I had been when I was small. I tried my hand at becoming an altar boy for a few decades, but then puberty came along and all in my head shifted. The point, “Now I lay me down to bed,” stems out of my earliest memories, and pieces of different prayers appear throughout the lyrics. In childhood, these lessons seem easy to comply with, however upon growing up and having to deal with the “real” planet, it all gets muddled, perplexing and unattainable.

Even though it may appear to be motivated by the scenario, “Up To Here” was really written some years ago. At the time, I thought the fantastic political divide in America was too wide a chasm as could exist; little did I know.  From the tune I try to highlight my exasperation without being preachy or overt. Since they are, being fed up with all things is nothing new for me, and dissatisfaction remains quite constant even though certain circumstances may alter. Particularly when there seems to be no answer.

Let Down:

There happen to be noble causes that receive attention for a little. A “cause of the entire year ” routine; a motion that’s at the headlines and on the heads of several, but then what? Attention spans are short, news reports vary, and T-shirts with logos and phrases do little to achieve the targets. “Stop this war! ” “Feed the planet! ” “Save the whales! ” The record goes on, just as do the issues. Being conscious isn’t enough.

They Live (1988)

At the beginning of February each year, you can turn on a tv set in America without witnessing a deluge of news reports about Super Bowl commercials. No matter what might be occurring in the world, there is always room for the run-down and testimonials of those “big game” advertisements. I realize how comfortable we’ve all grown with advertising and it irks me.

Ramones:

The Ramones are among my bands. I saw them back in the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ, and a lot times over the years. Following Joey and Dee Dee expired it just rubbed me the wrong way when I discovered “Blitzkrieg Bop” at a commercial for Diet Pepsi. I realize that living musicians don’t have a say as to where their music is utilized, but want that music publishers and advertisement agencies would be more respectful of the dead, their art and legacies.
