Avalanche’s Martin Kaut on NHL debut: “Dream come true for me”

Martin Kaut was one of the last two Avalanche players to step off the ice Wednesday to conclude that a morning skate in the Pepsi Center. He wanted to soak in each second to prepare for his NHL debut that would occur Wednesday night against the New York Islanders.

Kaut, 20, is Colorado’s 2018 draft pick, moving overall. The Czech Republic native will be the 13th player one of the picks in his draft class to appear in an NHL game.

“For certain, I’m excited. What can I say? ” Kaut said. “Dream come true for me and I just need to enjoy this time. ”

Kaut is slotted in using third-line center Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and Matt Nieto. Kaut is becoming his very first NHL chance due to the injuries to forward Mikko Rantanen, Nazem Kadri along with Matt Calvert, who each will miss the remainder of this month and probably more.

Kaut has become the player for the Colorado Eagles in each of the two seasons with the Avs’ American Hockey League affiliate. His figures represent his youth: He has just five goals and 16 points in 31 games this season, ranking 13th in team scoring. But he’s missed 17 games due to injury and Bednar said he’s played his best hockey .

“He’s eager to playwith. I spoke to him a tiny bit yesterday and spoke to him this morning,” Bednar said of Kaut. “He’s been working for a year and a half or longer to get this chance. I expect he brings energy that is good and performs with his game. ”

Footnotes. Goalie Philipp Gruabuer will miss his second game since suffering a lower-body injury Saturday against the Los Angeles Kings. Grubauer is out forever. Wednesday’s goalies are rookie Pavel Francouz and copy Hunter Miska. … Former Avs goalie Semyon Varlamov is advised for the beginning for the Islanders, who beat the Avs using Varlamov on internet 1-0 on Jan. 6 in Uniondale, N.Y. … The Avs are finishing a five-game homestand Wednesday, also looking for their next wind. They are on a three-game losing streak, such as Monday’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
