Avalanche Insider: What’s happening to Colorado in the third period? Avs can’t close.

The most concerning aspect of this four-game winless streak for the Avalanche entering rsquo;s house tilt against the San Jose Sharks is Colorado’s horrible custom for letting things slip from the third phase.
Let’the reductions are reviewed by so, will we?
• Jan. 6 — 1-0 L in Islanders: Scoreless early in the third phase (6:54),” New York center Anders Lee beat Avs goalie Pavel Francouz for the go-ahead goal and victory.
• Jan. 7 — 5-3 L at Rangers: The Avs tied things up at 3-3 midway through the next, but its offense dried up, and also two unanswered New York goals on Philipp Grubauer spelled doom for Colorado.
• Jan. 10 — 4-3 L (OT) vs. Penguins: Francouz allow in some third period goals and then Pittsburgh tied it up. Late heroics out of Avs forward Matt Calvert forced overtime, but Colorado was not able to close, as Penguins center Jared McCann felt on Francouz.
• Jan. 14 — 3-2 L (OT) vs. Stars: The Avalanche’s 2-0 first period lead evaporated, quickly, together with three consecutive Dallas goals. A strike past Grubauer out of Stars’ center Jason Dickinson tied up it, and also an overtime goal from defenseman Esa Lindell place Colorado away.
Call this stretch an anomaly if you want, but as Denver Post columnist Mark Kiszla points outside , championship-caliber teams don’t fold the moment it matters most. A pattern of unsuccessful phases indicates a lack of fortitude to an Avalanche team right in the playoff mix. It could ’t act as an extended habit, however, or see that the losses continue to stack up just like they did late last year — Colorado went 4-14-5 between Dec. 21 and Feb. 16 at 2019.
The slide cost the Avalanche a playoff berth.
However don’t just take my word for it.
Avs coach Jared Bednar also has experienced enough of Colorado’s closing attempts that are poor.
“Every breakdown, it feels like it’s costing us in this point, Bednar stated. “We have to keep pushing to be greater. ”
