Why Broncos fans should cheer — or jeer — the remaining teams in the NFL playoffs

DenverSportsOmelettelogo We’re down to the final four NFL teams in contention for the Super Bowl. Who need to Broncos fans root for? Here’take a peek at reasons to cheer and jeer the teams:

General manager John Lynch celebrates in ...Lachlan Cunningham, Getty ImagesGeneral manager John Lynch celebrates at the closing moments of this NFC Divisional Round Playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings in Levi’s Stadium on Jan. 11, 2020 at Santa Clara, California. The San Francisco 49ers won 27-10.
San Francisco 49ers

Cheer because … There are tons of Colorado ties. Head coach Kyle Shanahan is a Cherry Creek graduate. General manager John Lynch spent four seasons with the Broncos. Receiver Emmanuel Sanders was a vital component of the Denver crime for ages. Ben Garland went to Air Force Academy and played the Broncos. Cornerback Ahkelo Witherspoon played the CU Buffs.

Jeer because … Remember Super Bowl XXIV?

Green Bay Packers

Cheer because … Like the 49ers, there are lots of Colorado ties. Offensive tackle David Bakhtiari starred at CU. As did kicker Mason Crosby. Punter JK Scott was a standout in Mullen High School. And offensive lineman Billy Turner was a starter with the Broncos before joining Green Bay.

Jeer because … San Francisco has more ties. And you also ’re angry about Denver’s reduction in Week 3.

Kansas City Chiefs

Cheer because … You’re faithful to the AFC West. And it’s been 50 years because that they ’ve played at a Super Bowl. Plus defensive tackle Mike Pennel played at CSU-Pueblo.

Jeer because … They’re the Chiefs and you hate the Chiefs. They overcome the Broncos two times, in controlling style, this past year and eight times in a row.

Tennessee Titans

Cheer because … Who doesn’t enjoy an underdog narrative? A sixth seed that landed a playoff spot in Week 17. They beat the Patriots and the favorites, the Ravens to advance to the AFC championship match. Plus they re facing off against the despised Chiefs. And Nuggets shield Gary Harris likes them, too.

Jeer because … You’re angry about that wild-card playoff match in 1979 when Earl Campbell and the Oilers came into Denver and conquer your Broncos.
