Avalanche Line Changes Key to Ending Losing Streak

It might feel to the season as it is, however it’s just November. Let’s not dread. Perhaps not yet. Considering the Colorado Avalanche’s winning start, it s clear to freak out a little. Head trainer Jared Bednar is currently doing everything he could to change lines up and detect chemistry between the players that he has available. Have these line alterations worked or not?

Where and When Did it Start?

Even the 5-2 loss against the Anaheim Ducks on Oct. 26 at the Pepsi Center began the Avalanche’s problems, which lasted when the Florida Panthers arrived to town. Throughout their three-day break before facing the Panthers, the group announced that Gabriel Landeskog and Colin Wilson were out with lower-body injuries. They already had one top-liner outside (Mikko Rantanen) and now another. Additionally, losing a throws a wrench into the system.

The beginning lines against the Panthers were:

91 Nazem Kadri – 29 Nathan MacKinnon – 72 Joonas Donskoi

95 Andre Burakovsky – 17 Tyson Jost – 37 J.T. Compher

13 Valeri Nichushkin – 81 Vladislav Kamenev – 12 Jayson Megna

83 Matt Nieto – 41 Pierre-Edouard Bellemare – 11 Matt Calvert

The shield pairings have been Samuel Girard and Erik Johnson, Ian Cole paired up with Cale Makar and Nikita Zadorov paired up with Mark Barberio. Ryan Graves was subbed out to Barberio, the change on defense against the competition.

The team played a game for the first two phases but lost their advantage in the next. Despite MacKinnon, Compher and Donskoi playing with minutes, they couldn’t manage a win. With a 3-1 lead midway through the third, the Panthers scored two unanswered goals to tie this up and Jonathan Huberdeau (the Avs’ nemesis) acquired it in semi .

Home Loss into the Stars

There was still plenty of hope going into the Dallas Stars game. MacKinnon centered Nieto and Donskoi, while Kadri headed a line with Jost and Compher. Burakovsky played with Bellemare and Calvert. Nieto, Nichushkin and Megna stayed collectively but moved into the line. The change on defense was swapping out Barberio for Graves.

The Avalanche outshot the Stars by 10 and MacKinnon recovered the most ice time, as anticipated. Kadri was right behind him in TOI and Donskoi was a power horse. They even had two penalties but couldn’t beat on backup goaltender Anton Khudobin. Kadri needed a target when it was mastered the target post was dislodged while the target was scored overturned. “That has been the turning point where we chose to start playing and from that point on out we mastered the remainder of the game,” Kadri told Rick Sadowski of NHL.com after the game. “Their goaltender produced a few fine saves. This was a little late. ” The 2-1 closing was a third straight loss for the group.

Is It Time to Worry Yet?

The Avalanche were already at a disadvantage entering the contest versus the Arizona Coyotes on Nov. 2, the night after the Stars loss. Changing it up a little, Bednar began the game with Jost-MacKinnon-Compher at the top line. As play progressed and chemistry lacked as well as some other elements, However, the lines changed. “We can’t anticipate to start like that and end up with the outcome that we need,” Nieto told NHL.com correspondent Alan Robinson after the game. “We’re digging ourselves in a hole and even if we come on, playing from behind like that’s difficult to do in this league. ”

Coyotes goaltender Darcy Kuemper did a good job of keeping the puck. Again, the Avalanche out-shot their competition but were still shut out 3-0, hence ending MacKinnon’s scoring series and cooling his hot start to the season in the team’s fourth straight loss.

Away Loss into the Stars

Under a minute into the rematch against the Stars at the American Airlines Arena, a breakdown in the Avalanche’s defense allowed the Stars to put on the board Immediately. As opposed to pushing forward and regrouping, they fell apart. Turnovers and missed moves kept them contained to just one goal scored at the end of the first. “Right now, we are definitely not playing our best and we simply can’t find a way to win,” Burakovsky told Josh Clark of NHL.com.

To change things around to the game against the Nashville Predators on Thursday, the Avalanche sent Megna back down and called up T.J. Tynan. In 10 games with the American Hockey League’s Colorado Eagles this season, Tynan has 12 points and two goals.

Even though Bednar hadn’t made that decision after practice yesterday, he did address a number of difficulties. One of the most important was if they rsquo ; ll be back and that there’s not any news on the three injured players.

Lines will continue to modify, and goaltenders Philipp Grubauer and Pavel Francouz happen to be providing a chance to the club. The battle is on offense at this time. The Avalanche have just scored seven goals in their past five matches as opposed to the 20 goals scored in the five games prior to their winning streak. They could muster some home ice advantage to their contests against the Predators and versus the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night prior to hitting the road for nearly two weeks.
