The Avalanche confronted its first real hardship of a NHL season Thursday night using a second-period home shortage against the Boston Bruins.
Colorado’s reply proved many think this team has the DNA of a Stanley Cup contender.
The Avs conquered the Bruins 4-2 at the Pepsi Center to stay ideal for the entire season and handed Boston (2-1-0) its first loss. Winger Andre Burakovsky played the function of Avalanche hero using a spin and wrister past Bruins goalie Jaroslav Halak using seven minutes remaining to go. Boston bolstered its edge minutes when 42-year-old defenseman Zdeno Chara rifled a slap shot from near the blue line. The puck deflected Gabe Landeskog and found its way beyond Grubauer back again. Even the Bruins’ 2-0 edge was short-lived.

Colorado went with time winding down before the intermission using Landeskog directing the odd-man rush. When the left pole rang off, center Nathan MacKinnon cleaned the miss up for his first goal this year. Boston scored again two minutes into the second, but it had been waved off for goalie interference, along with the Avalanche kept momentum by murdering an consequent Bruins power-play chance.
