COLORADO SPRINGS — Nuggets wing Will Barton includes a habit of saying things that are illuminating, confusing and humorous all at one time.
When Barton pleaded ignorance to the Nuggets’ open competition at little ahead Friday, a battle he’therefore allegedly a part of, so it was to take his own opinions in jest.
“It’s open? ” he said . “I didn’t know that! Nobody told me that…. (Coach) told y’all of that? I didn’t know that. ”
A slow start to camp had no bearing Barton’s mood. Barton has been limited s open gyms at September. He maintained it was serious and he simply “strained it just a bit. ”

However he confessed that the setback has been bothersome.
“Definitely a tiny deflating, coming from an injury-plagued year this past year,” Barton said. “The good thing is I feel good after I’m on the market, I’m real convinced, I’m not holding back quite much. Doing what I like to perform. Got a fantastic rhythm, not too sad, but it’s a bit deflating since I don’t wish to return, I wish to be able to practice and play and do whatever. ”
Barton was confined to 43 matches a season ago after undergoing core muscle surgery. His shooting percentages dropped because he tried to find his place in the offense After he returned. That carried on to the postseason before coach Mike Malone made the difficult decision to start Torrey Craig over Barton. Malone said at Monday’s press the starting small forward position was up for grabs.
Barton hasn’t been a full player this past week, but between him personally, Craig, Michael Porter Jr. and Juancho Hernangomez, Malone gave no indication who had the early advantage ahead of next week’s preseason opener.
